چکیده

We present a molecular dynamics study on the self-assembly of anisotropic nanoparticles—triangles and tetrahedrons on a flat surface. We observe ordered and disordered aggregates of nanoparticles depending on the particle–particle and surface–particle interactions. Anisotropic particles induce directionality in the assembly process. In particular, a cross over from the isotropic (spherical) assembly to the anisotropic (non-spherical) assembly of nanoparticles is identified as their size increases for weak nanoparticle–surface interactions. However, at strong nanoparticle–surface interactions, clusters of nanoparticles grow uniformly on the surface. We present phase diagrams that depict all possible structures of triangles and tetrahedrons depending on their size (L) and the nanoparticle–surface interaction strength (εns). We show a disorder to order transition in the L εns plane, as L and εns increase. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Controlled growth and shape-directed self-assembly of gold nanoarrows

Self-assembly of colloidal nanocrystals into complex superstructures offers notable opportunities to create functional devices and artificial materials with unusual properties. Anisotropic nanoparticles with nonspherical shapes, such as rods, plates, polyhedra, and multipods, enable the formation of a diverse range of ordered superlattices. However, the structural complexity and tunability of n...

Self-Assembly Kinetics of Colloidal Particles inside Monodispersed Micro-Droplet and Fabrication of Anisotropic Photonic Crystal Micro-Particles

A new microfluidic approach to preparing anisotropic colloidal photonic crystal microparticles is developed and the self-assembly kinetics of colloidal nanoparticles is discussed. Based on the “coffee ring” effect in the self-assembly process of colloidal silica particle in strong solvent extraction environment, we successfully prepared anisotropic photonic crystal microparticles with different...

Chain-like nanostructures from anisotropic self-assembly of semiconducting metal oxide nanoparticles with a block copolymer.

A facile method is reported for the preparation of chain-like nanostructures by anisotropic self-assembly of TiO(2) and SnO(2) nanoparticles with the aid of a block copolymer in an aqueous medium. Well-defined crystallographic orientations between neighbouring nanoparticles are observed in TiO(2) nanochains, which is important for tailoring the grain boundaries and thus enhancing charge transport.

Soft Polymer Magnetic Nanocomposites: Microstructure Patterning by Magnetophoretic Transport and Self-Assembly.

A method to produce and pattern magnetic microstructure in a soft-polymer matrix is demonstrated. An externally applied magnetic field is used to influence the dynamics of magnetophoretic transport and dipolar self-assembly of magnetic nanoparticle clusters in the liquid precursor of poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Magnetic nanoparticles agglomerate by an interplay of van der Waals forces and dip...

Controlling gold nanoparticle assembly on electron beam-reduced nitrophenyl self-assembled monolayers via electron dose

Electron Beam Lithography is a well-established tool suitable for the modification of substrate surface chemistry. It therefore follows that the deposition and self-assembly of nanoparticles on a surface can be directed using this method. This work explores the effect of electron dose on the electron beam lithographic patterning of selfassembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surfaces. Electron beam...
